Value of Community Engagement in Planning Survey

We are seeking your assistance with a study that Planning Aid Wales is currently undertaking on the value of community engagement in planning in Wales.

This work is supported by Welsh Government and our findings and recommendations will be considered by the Welsh Government’s Planning Division.

Our approach is to seek views from the widest possible range of groups and organisations about the strengths and weaknesses of current approaches to community engagement and then to seek views on what might improve such approaches in the future.

Planning Aid Wales has prepared a wide database of interested parties including those within the system such as local authorities, government, and the Inspectorate, those in or working on behalf of the private sector and, of course, community representatives.

The study will take account of current limitations on resources within Local Planning Authorities and Welsh Government and any recommendations should be deliverable within current legislation.

We are contacting you as an identified stakeholder at the outset of this exciting project.  We hope to ensure good geographic coverage, to enable contributions from organisations and companies large and small as well as from those focused on both plan-making and development management. This early contact work is being backed up by a thorough literature review drawing on material not just from Wales but also further afield.
